Here’s a minor update for you guys! I was greatly enjoying a taste of a life more calm but just when I was getting comfortable, I had to deal with a series of negative influences which is making life seem a bit harder lately. Despite all of this mess, I actually started creating a really nice new song. It almost seems like the song is the way I remind myself that my life has never been easy but I have stood through it all.
I have not named my latest work but I am almost ready to start mastering it. I have one more section to work out and then I have to make a suitable ending. Even so, I offer you guys this little excerpt: http://dj6i.darkseas.net/audio/Soulful.mp3. Please understand that “Soulful” is not the name of the song but it describes the feeling of the song until a name can be made. Enjoy!
Where you at 6? Where you at?
I am still here, I am just not making as much noise as I usually do. The holiday season is always a busy and hectic time for me considering my family and I often travel to several places to visit family during this time of the year and this was no different. I was mobile for a good 75% or my holiday and am just settling back into the daily grind.
At the moment, I am taking a break from composition. This is not to say that I am quitting, I am just taking some R and R. My life has been so freakishly busy the past several months that I am lucky to have held on. Now that I have fewer demands on my time, I am catching up on my fun time – playing games, doing random computer projects, etc. I love my music but do not want it to become a ‘chore’ or a ‘job’ because then it will cease to be fun and provide a creative outlet.
I have several ideas for some music in my head and will sit down and commit it to the studio when the right moment flashes. Until then, keep an eye out here. If you are curious as to where I draw my inspiration from, you should listen to my Pandora station. It’s totally free and you can hear some other amazing artists in my field.
Yay! I am finally done with all of my homework for this semester and I am taking the next semester off. I am not as bustling with creativity like I was before or perhaps I am but I am trying to pace myself so I don’t overdue it. But I can’t help but do a little more Christmas music. I am writing a much more stylized version of one of my Christmas favorites. As for which one? Well… as they say in Japan Sore Wa Himitsu Desu! (That’s a secret!). Keep an eye on the site for the latest song!
Just as an FYI, I have many activities that my hands are in from one day to the next. Right now, I am in the last few days of a Developmental Psychology class toward my Master’s and have a wide array of things due. Because of this, I am temporarily pausing musical production work until I power through the finals. I hope to get one more Christmas tune ready before 12/25 but I won’t be hurt if I don’t. Stay tuned for more music coming soon!
Wow! It has been a busy week or two! I have been busily working on my song Insomniac, I have added a full fledge desk to my studio space instead of the rather off balance table I was using and I am really hoping to get some Christmas music done unless I get inspired to do some more of my original work. Today is a special release because I am offering you not one but TWO songs to listen to.
The first is my new track “Insomniac” which came about last Friday when I was bored and wanting to play in the studio. I started out at about 12:30AM and was just going to experiment. I looked up at the clock a little later and realized that it was 3:30AM so my little experiment had lasted 3 hours! I felt it was aptly named “Insomniac” and I think you will get the feel for that name when you hear it. It is probably the edgiest of all of my work to date and it is also the first track where I have been obsessive about making sure my mix stayed cool (aka nothing hitting over 0.1 DB above the limit on my mixer). I think the song turned out really good but you be the judge: DJ6i – Insomniac.
The other present I offer is my version of The Carol of the Bells. This haunting hit has long been a favorite of mine as I love the use of key and 1/2 key tone changes that the composer used. It is also one of the hardest songs to find a version of that I don’t really like. I downloaded a public domain copy of the sheet music and used it with my Logic Express Score input screen (as opposed to the piano roll) and the result was a nice track that holds true to the original hit without being vanilla. I have actually had this one ready for a while but was not going to upload it until I had the chance to complete more Christmas songs but most of my wonderful beta listeners had told me that they wanted to see it on the net so they can download it. What can I say? I caved into the pressure: DJ6i – Carol of the Bells.
Well, I have actually had this posted on my page for about a week now but realized that I have not updated my home page to reflect it. Over the Thanksgiving break, I dropped track number 4 on my album. This one is called “SpaceCase” and originally began as a loop experiment in Garageband. However, I had a weird desire to watch the ‘death’ of HAL9000 on YouTube and suddenly got inspired to finish the song… I think it has something to do with daisy (100 cool points if you get that). The result is actually more like 50/50, it is half loops and half personal compositions.
Shortly after putting the music out there, it has become a favorite of virtually all the people whom I have shared it with. I even find myself listening to it more than the others I have created so that is a good descriptor that it has something special about it. I am in the process of getting logos created and have someone looking seriously at creating a video for me so I can post it on YouTube and expose it to more people there. Life sure is exciting at the moment!
