It’s Promotion Time!

It’s amazing how far I have come in the past few months both with production ability and general popularity in my small corner of the world. I want to thank you for visiting my site and for your interest in my music. At this point, I am focusing my attention on promotion so that I can reach a larger user base. If you are one of my  friends or listeners, then please check out the following ways you can help promote me!

1.) YouTube – I have a YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/6iprod where I am slowly posting my music as videos with basically my logo as the background and the song that is being played listed on the screen. Subscribe to my channel, add your favorite DJ6i song as a Favorite on your YouTube, etc.

2.) Facebook – Along the far left side of this website there is a FaceBook “badge” which connects to my 6i Productions FB page. Like me!

3.) SoundCloud – Visit the online streaming website SoundCloud and find my SoundCloud channel: http://www.soundcloud.com/6iprod and connect with me there!

I even have an LP that I will gladly send you if you would be interested! Contact Me and we’ll talk!

The Roots Double Release Party!

The ending of Roots is officially completed and I have also gone through and finished the mastering on both versions. I do hope that this gives you all a taste of where I come from! I also invite you guys to share your opinoins on which version of the song you liked better. So without further ado:

DJ6i – Roots (Original) – The original, synthed version of the song as I originally wrote it.

DJ6i – Roots (Unplugged) – The non synthed version of Roots that was created as a reminder of where I came from and as a semi-gift for my sister in law.

Enjoy!

The Roots are planted!

Well friends, it seems as though I have officially named the new song that I offered a sample of “Roots”. I did this because I grew up in rural SE Oklahoma and still visit it frequently. Oklahoma City, where I live currently, is much more of a Midwestern (think St. Louis, Kansas City) mentality than Southern. However, when I go to SE Oklahoma, I am reminded of a land where bluegrass and Southern rock are planted deep in the ground and still know people who have lived on the farm since they were born and many have and will die at the same farm. Roots takes me back to the kind of music that isn’t country but isn’t much like anything else.

Also, this song will be released in TWO versions. The first is the original version which features a few nice synths mixed with a variety of other instruments and finds a happy medium between the pretty sound of AngelSpun and the more synthesized SpaceCase. However, while working on it, I was seeking advice from my sister in law who is decidedly Southern. She couldn’t hear the Southern sound of the music when it was synthed so I made another version of the main line featuring a southern piano and she was hooked. I liked the sound so much that I decided to go ahead and copy the entire song into a version that is more like a Southern Rock song than an Electronica song and my sis in law loves it! I will release both versions at the same time.

As it stands, I only need to complete the ending of the song and the full set will be complete. But the problem I have (as I often do) is how to end one of my creations since they all take on such a life and energy of their own. I don’t want to end the songs but I also know that all good things must come to an end. At least in music you can simply hit the ‘repeat’ button.

Keep your eyes peeled!

DJ 6i Out!

Double Header!

Wow! It has been a busy week or two! I have been busily working on my song Insomniac, I have added a full fledge desk to my studio space instead of the rather off balance table I was using and I am really hoping to get some Christmas music done unless I get inspired to do some more of my original work. Today is a special release because I am offering you not one but TWO songs to listen to.

The first is my new track “Insomniac” which came about last Friday when I was bored and wanting to play in the studio. I started out at about 12:30AM and was just going to experiment. I looked up at the clock a little later and realized that it was 3:30AM so my little experiment had lasted 3 hours! I felt it was aptly named “Insomniac” and I think you will get the feel for that name when you hear it. It is probably the edgiest of all of my work to date and it is also the first track where I have been obsessive about making sure my mix stayed cool (aka nothing hitting over 0.1 DB above the limit on my mixer). I think the song turned out really good but you be the judge: DJ6i – Insomniac.

The other present I offer is my version of The Carol of the Bells. This haunting hit has long been a favorite of mine as I love the use of key and 1/2 key tone changes that the composer used. It is also one of the hardest songs to find a version of that I don’t really like. I downloaded a public domain copy of the sheet music and used it with my Logic Express Score input screen (as opposed to the piano roll) and the result was a nice track that holds true to the original hit without being vanilla. I have actually had this one ready for a while but was not going to upload it until I had the chance to complete more Christmas songs but most of my wonderful beta listeners had told me that they wanted to see it on the net so they can download it. What can I say? I caved into the pressure: DJ6i – Carol of the Bells.

Happy Friday!
