Teaser – New Experience

After forcing my 8 year old, heavily modified MacBook Pro to handle the punishment of running multi-sample, deep layered tracks in Logic Pro, I finally got an upgrade. I purchased a brand new iMac with a ridiculous amount of power and I upgraded to Logic Pro X. Here is just a teaser of what my new stuff sounds like. Wow… a 2 minute track used to take about 4 minutes to bounce, now it takes 4 seconds.

Here’s a teaser for your enjoyment!

DJ6i – NewXperience

New Life, New studio

DJ6i is still alive and well although I would argue that I felt like I was mostly dead these past few months. Due to a series of unfortunate events, my life and my stability were sent through the wringer a few times and it has not been easy getting life back on track. But now, it seems that the fires have passed and as with any life changes, my creative muscles have been dreaming up lots of ideas but my studio space had been greatly reduced. Now, only a few days ago, I bought myself the biggest desk I have ever had. It is actually 2 “L desks patched together to make a “U”. Now I have the studio space to cook up more music.

Furthermore, I found Logic Pro 9 was available as an App Store purchase for $200… A far cry from the $700 I would have spent for retail. The best part? 25+ gb of new loops and instruments. Oh yeah! Helluva deal! Now if I could only get the time worked out so I can work on stuff!

CD Pressed and Ready

Out of the empty blog rides Dj6i. It’s been a long time friends and it has been a long time for reasons beyond my control. I have been in a constant state of flux after a silly decision to try and sell my house. We ended up keeping it so life is slowly retruning to normal but with adding a fourth child that normal is still a different sort of normal. My studio is back up and I have added two nice KRK Near Field monitors to my rig so I can hear the music in a different way than headphones. I have lots of ideas for songs and am still working on my song that I have named “Defrost” but it is taking a while to get it to reach the place that I want it to be.

In other, more interesting news (perhaps), I have used the awesome services of CDBaby.com again to help me move up. They are pressing 10 copies of the Audiophiles EP, complete with my artwork and custom designs. I should have them within the next few days. Why did I do this? Simple! The streaming stations such as Pandora, Spotify, and Slacker are truly the movers and shapers of the new digital music age and in order to get your music on these engines, you have to send them a bonafide CD with artwork and all that can’t look like a home built disc. So, for just around 50 bucks, I was able to press 10 of those badboys. I will send one to each streaming company and keep the rest as gifts and/or prizes.

That brings me to my next question. Would any of you like an autographed copy of my EP? It may not be worth anything right now… and maybe not ever but it just might. Comment to me about what you would be willing to do to win an autographed copy of my first run EP. The best idea will win but you have to show me that you did it! Cool? Then I look forward to it!

Joyous World – Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everybody! I hope this finds you all quite well! It took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, but I managed to squeeze out a Christmas song this year. Although I had 80% of Jingle Bell Rock completed, the song really didn’t fit what I was hoping for so I went with this one instead. The main reason is that this year was a year where I can safely say that God has really blessed me this year and nothing anyone can say will take that away from me. I have LOTS of things to be joyful for this year and I wanted a song that would be a testament to that. So HEAR IT IS!

Merry Christmas to you all and I hope you enjoy Joyous World!

DJ6i Presents CanonBall!

I promised all of you that new music was on its way so here we are! It’s the first full release from DJ6i since Roots Unplugged!  Please take a moment to check out: DJ6i – CanonBall! In this remix, I pay tribute to one of my favorite Baroque period songs… Pachelbel’s Canon. The song is an amazingly soothing melody that is timeless. It’s structure has been used to create some of the most popular songs in the past 20-30 years… everything from Aerosmith to Avril Lavigne and even Bob Marley have used this chord structure.

Although this song is based off the public domain sheet music, I have done a considerable amount of modifications for my own style and of course, added various electronic elements to the piece. It may not be brand new, but it will give my listeners a taste of some other styles that I like and may incorporate in my next EP. Enjoy! And remember, I LOVE commentary, it helps me grow as an artist.

More Music in the Works

Hello out there, I hope my friends are doing well. Unfortunately, I have not been contacted by anyone who likes my music so I can’t really give any ‘shout outs’. Anyhow, the DJ has had his creativity cap on the past few days and I have been working on some new things. I am still working on my newest track, the one that I still have not officially named, but I want to focus on making quality music so the progress has been slow going. Any DJ can grab a bunch of random things and lump them together and it might even sell a little… especially if I put a random female voice track using AutoTune… (Ok… sorry, personal gripe). However, I want to produce music that I am proud to stamp my name on so this next song will not be out until I have it 100% to my quality.

On the other hand, I started a new project recently. I have always loved classical music and one of the most powerful classic songs in my heart is Canon by Pachelbel… the chords in the song and the wonderful moving melody line. Because of that, I have started to create my own interpretation of the song which I lovingly refer to as “CanonBall”. Depending on the copyright guidelines, I may offer this as a downloadable song or I might make it a new song on my next EP. Either way, I hope to have that song available before too long. It is my hope that a modern, electronic spin on this amazing classic will expose the song to new audiences that it was not previously exposed to.

Until then, I want to thank you all again. I am now in the triple digits for profits on my music… that’s right… DJ6i has broken the $1.00 mark! As silly as it may sound, I cannot express how grateful I am that people would take a liking to the music I make and like it enough to pay for it! I am also thankful that it is still possible for an independent artist to make music without being influenced by big record labels. Keep the music independent and the rest of the world will find it!
